Gonadotropin. Produced by the human placenta and excreted in the urine, from where it can be extracted and purified. Stimulates the production of progesterone by the corpus luteum and supports the development of the placenta. Has a gonadotropic effect, mainly luteinizing.
In women, the drug induces ovulation and stimulates the synthesis of estrogens and progesterone. In men, it stimulates spermatogenesis and the production of sex steroids.
